When Oklahoma! premiered in 1943 it was considered radical, which many people seem to forget, since it’s connotation nowadays is a golden age classic reflecting old values. But with each revival of the show, directors remind us how timeless the original work is and how with small changes it can reflect the world we live in now. In this post, I'll be talking about how a change in the casting process created a whole new layer of depth to this marvelous work, intertwined with my own experiences with defining a huge hidden part of me.
“Nagbagong Bigla Ang Aking Timpla:” Dressing to Impress
My New Year's resolution was to improve my writing by making a blog post every week, and what aspect of my writing needs more help than writing in another language. This week's post is completely in Tagalog. I'll be talking about the song "Titibo-tibo" and what it means to change the way you look for other people.
“Hugot Pa More:” My Favorite Morissette Songs
In Tagalog, there’s a word called “hugot.” It’s one of those words that doesn’t really have a direct translation into English, as far as I know, but the closest I can think of is heartache. Although music that is classified as a "hugot song" is sad, it's connotation in Filipino culture includes a variety of emotions and actions. In this post, I'll be sharing music from my favorite hugot singer, Morissette Amon and how they're related to aspects of Filipino culture and my own life.
“How Can You Bear to Let Someone Love You:” What I Learned From Hundred Days
The Bengsons are one of my top favorite artists of all time because of how emotionally open and vulnerable they are in their works. In this post, I'll be examining their most recent album and production, Hundred Days, and what it means to love and be loved by someone.
“Write Like You’re Running Out of Time:” The Last 2 Weeks of No Posting

When Music Fails: Preferring and Appreciating Silence
From the moment I wake up, to the time I go to sleep, I am constantly playing music on my phone. This nearly 24 hour playlist has allowed me to form a wide discography that encompasses many different genres. Because of this, it may seem that I should have a song perfect for every occasion. However, in this post, I'll be talking about the moments where I feel fed up with music, the days where I want to live in complete silence.

Here are the things that I loved during the beginning of the year, from a double Dolly lockdown to retro music and shows, this list will hopefully give you the spring in your step this spring.
“I definitely have friends:” Defining Friendship at this Stage of My Life
Sitting at home on your computer on a Friday night might seem like a characteristic of a loner, someone who doesn't have friends. But is there more to this scene? Because like Rebecca Bunch sang in an episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, "I definitely have friends!" In this post, I'll be talking about defining friendship and connection in my 20's, and how college and the internet have affected who I actively call my friend.
“I’m with the Apex Predator:” A Reflection on My High School Friendships
Cleaning out your camera roll can be the perfect opportunity for you to reminisce on the years that have passed. But what if reviewing these photos reshapes the way you view your treasured memories? In this post, I'll be reflecting on my changed view of my friendships in high school, with the help of the movie turned musical, Mean Girls.
“I’m a Part of That Aren’t I?:” Dealing with Other People’s Success
Sometimes I get struck with how much I love working in education. It combines my many interests and I generally enjoy every minute I spend working and learning about all the things that go into teaching. However, there are moments where I find myself feeling bad that I didn’t choose theatre as my major and education as my hobby. These moments usually happen when I see one of my friends succeed in the theatre world. In this post, I'll be talking about how untamed jealousy can discount my own personal achievements and ruin friendships through the lens of Cathy from The Last Five Years.
