“Gasoline, Pretty Please:” Finding the right speed while getting to know someone

There’s some things that are okay for you to want to go faster: lines at the cash register, the time on the last hour of work, a dinner out with someone you don’t care about. But there are some things you definitely want to take the time to go slow for, relationships being one of them. In this post I talk about finding the right balance between taking it slow while getting to know someone versus putting enough of yourself out there to know that you're interested.

“Sometimes giving up is the strong thing:” What it’s like to be the one who leaves.

This week I found a new respect and differing point of view towards one of my past exes, the one I wrote about last year on here. I thought that chapter would be closed forever, but she definitely popped into my head as I was staring at my new partner and telling her I don’t think it would be good for us to speak to each other ever again. I got to feel what it was like to be in my ex’s shoes, to be the one initiating the break and it gave me a new perspective on my past relationships.

“And Suddenly All of the Love Songs Were About You:” A Playlist for Falling for a Friend

If you're anything like me, when you listen to music while doing some mundane task, your brain drifts away and imagines scenarios and music videos to go along with the songs you're listening to. Well recently, a familiar face keeps popping up in these daydreams. In this post, I'll be talking about falling for a friend, and how the songs I associate with my crush on her change as my feelings progresses.

“A Brand New City:” A Musical Mitski Exchange

What's the greatest form of intimacy? Is it sleeping next to each other, or is it the ability to sit together in silence? I personally think that sharing your music taste with someone should be up there. Sharing the songs that you feel most connected to, the songs you play when you're sad, and the songs you find yourself playing all the time takes a great about of vulnerability. In this week's post, I'll recount a music exchange I did with a friend, wherein she shared her favorite Mitski songs while I shared my favorite Taylor Swift songs, and the reactions we shared while listening to artists we hadn't listened to before.

“Love is so short, forgetting is so long:” A Rewind on a Relationship and Taylor Swift’s RED

In my new "Rewind" series, I'll listen to and write about whole albums, while recounting the most important songs to me now, as well as how I've changed since I first listened to it. In this edition, I'll be writing about Taylor Swift's album, Red, which is known as THE breakup album, and houses some of her saddest and most beautiful songs.

“Paper Cut Stings from Our Paper Thin Plans:” Refusing to Let Go

The song "Death By a Thousand Cuts" was inspired by the movie Someone Great, which was inspired by the album 1989, and this post was inspired by that. It must be a common feeling to hold on to a crumbling relationship rather than letting it go, but if you've never experienced it, In this post, I'll be talking about the concept of "a thousand cuts." I will also be sharing some poetry inspired by this concept.

“You’re My Lover:” Songs that Define Being in Love

There are so many great love songs out there and later this week, we're getting a whole album dedicated to it from my favorite artist, Taylor Swift. The release of her single, "Lover," has got me thinking about what it feels like to be in love and how to know when to say those three special words. In this post, I'll be talking about my favorite love songs that define what I'm like when I'm in love.
